Scotstounhill
The only Victorian villa remaining on Crescent Road, a sloping three storey townhouse, is shown here in this 2007 photo.

As an infant, I lived in this house from 1979 until 1982. The previous owner was a Dr Scobbie who converted the large basement into a surgery, with the entrance to the rear. Adjacent to the villa, closer to the railway bridge stood a wooden Cub Scout Hall which was torn down in the mid 1990s to build a three-storey modern block of flatted dwellinghouses.

Nowadays the house sits in the unfortunate shadow of two multi-storey flats off Lincoln Avenue. These flats will be demolished before the year 2020 - at which time the amenity of the area will greatly improve.

Thankfully, sections of Scotstounhill have resisted modern architectural voracity and remain undiminished. Talbot Terrace, situated just off Anniesland Road at the junction with Crescent Road, has been untouched since it was plotted in the 1890s:

These late-Victorian terraced houses provided homes for suburban commuters, following the opening of Scotstounhill station in 1887. Today, residents of Talbot Terrace maintain the rural tranquility of the early 20th century despite the looming spectre of the high flats built upon the former site of Muttonhole Farm.
